My name is Essi and I'm the owner of this fanlisting. To make an incredibly long and boring story short, I'm a 24-year-old girl from Finland. I'm a Bachelor of Culture and Arts who currently writes film reviews. I've been designing websites for over ten years, it's a very dear hobby of mine.
I love movies, journalism, pop & media culture, House (the TV series), British comedy shows, London, travelling, Garfield and cats. I'm a huge admirer of Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, Robert Downey Jr. and Conan O'Brien, to mention a few.
How I became a Chris fan
I love Chris Daughtry, obviously. :D There just isn't words to describe his voice. It's absolutely unbelievable. He's one of those few artists that can really send chills down my spine just by singing a few lines from a song.
I'm very grateful that a Finnish TV station showed Americal Idol 2006 here in Finland, too. Without them I probably would have never heard about Chris. The episodes would air after a week or so when they premiered in the USA. Anyway... I fell in love with Chris' voice the second he started singing his audition song "The Letter". I was just blown away. In addition, it didn't hurt that he was (and still is, hehe) extremely attractive. ;) I grew to love him even more as the show went on.
I was a bit surprised that Chris was eliminated from American Idol, but then again I think it was a good thing. I think he did need the show as a platform, but I believe he had a lot more creative control over his album with his band than he would have had as the winner of the show. The future definitely has much bigger things in store for Chris than American Idol.
Excited about the album
After Idol, I followed all the news regarding Chris very closely and I also purchased the Absent Element (his former band) album, which is brilliant. After hearing he had signed a record deal, I just couldn't wait for his debut album. I was very excited when the release date was finally announced and I pre-ordered the album as soon as it was available. Then I listened to some samples on the official site and the whole album on VH1.com and was blown away... again.
Once I got my hands on the album, I was ecstatic. Probably a little too much. :D Heh. I had high hopes for the album... but it's far more than I ever expected. I've been listening to it non-stop... it's just awesome. It's exactly the kind of music I love and I think Chris' voice really stands out well.
I'm very impressed with all of the songs and I'm very happy to see that Chris has been involved in the writing process of almost all of the songs. It's really hard to pick any favourite songs since I honestly like all of them, but I guess the ones I've been listening to the most are "All These Lives", "Crashed", "Home", "What I Want", "Gone", "Over You" and "It's Not Over". I love the bonus track "Sorry" and the acoustic versions of "Home" and "Crashed" as well. I'd love to hear a couple of more hard rock songs in the future.
A true artist
I also love the fact that Chris isn't only awesome on record but he's an exceptional live performer as well. He's a true artist and entertainer. :) I also respect Chris for his values and outlook on life. His fellow band members are also very talented and they seem pretty cool, too. It'd be wonderful to see them live someday.
I hope all the best for Chris and his family and I hope he still feels small when he stands beside an ocean. :) I can't wait to see what the future brings for him and his marvelous band.
When I talked with Chris on the phone...
Yes, that's very true! I got to talk with Chris Daughtry on the phone for about 20 minutes on June 19th, 2007.
I was an intern/trainee in the biggest Finnish pop culture magazine for teenagers, and they needed someone to interview Chris. I was more than happy to do that, of course! I sounded like a complete idiot, though! Haha. Anyway, Chris was awesome, very nice. I got a chance to say I loved the debut album and wish him and his family all the best. I still can't quite believe I actually got to interview him.
